Trust & Transparency
We understand that kashrut is deeply personal and that every guest comes with their own standards and questions. We are committed to being fully transparent about how food is sourced, prepared, and served on our expeditions. We welcome questions before and during your trip, and we are always happy to walk you through our processes.
Our goal is not just to meet halachic requirements, but to create an environment of trust, comfort, and confidence—so you can focus fully on the adventure ahead knowing your values are being respected at every step.
If you have specific questions or personal standards you follow, we encourage you to reach out before your trip so we can make appropriate accommodations.
Trip Environment & Kashrut Standards
We strive to maintain the highest possible standards of kashrut on every expedition. It’s important to understand that different trip styles allow for different levels of control over food preparation.
On lodge-based and family-style trips, where we have access to full kitchens and stable storage, we are able to maintain stricter and more controlled kosher standards, similar to a traditional home environment.
On backpacking and fly-in Arctic expeditions, food systems must be adapted to remote, weight-limited, and weather-dependent conditions. In these environments, we maintain kosher integrity while making field-based logistical decisions to accommodate safety, weight limits, and the realities of remote travel.
No matter the environment, our guiding principle remains the same: to preserve the spirit, integrity, and halachic foundation of kashrut to the highest standard reasonably achievable in the field.
Kashrut Disclaimer
While we make every reasonable effort to uphold high standards of kashrut, interpretations of halacha may vary among individuals and communities. Alaska Kosher Expeditions operates based on the guidance we have received and the standards outlined on this page, and we encourage guests to ask questions and make informed decisions regarding their personal level of observance.
Remote expedition travel involves unique logistical realities. Guests acknowledge that different expedition styles (lodge-based vs. backpacking/fly-in trips) may impact the level of control possible over food preparation processes. Alaska Kosher Expeditions commits to maintaining the highest practical kosher standards in each environment, while balancing safety, transport limitations, and remote field conditions.
By booking a trip, guests acknowledge that remote expedition travel presents logistical limitations, and that while best efforts are always made, conditions in the field may require reasonable adaptations while still preserving the spirit and integrity of kosher observance.
If you have specific personal requirements, please contact us prior to booking so we can confirm how we can accommodate your needs.
